By
special invitation from our friends and frequent house guests, The
Winter Sounds, we took an overnight trip to see their show w/The Whigs,
and spend the evening with them, family and friends. It was so
heartwarming to be among a roomful of friends hearing them play. The
hometown crowd definitely showed them some love, and as we all know,
that makes all the difference in the world. It SO enhances the
experience for the crowd AND the band. I love being elevated in that
way and couldn't have been happier for the Winter Sounds.
We were lukewarm about the Whigs before they took the stage. We'd seen them headline a couple of the local shows here, but never quite got "it". Well, we Totally did tonight! Wow..they are one fantastic rock band. Tight as can be, with some lush arrangements and take no prisoners, confident style and presence on that stage. We loved them and made a point to tell them all this after the show. On top of this outstanding performance, they couldn't have been any nicer. Can't wait to see them again. I think they made 2 new lifetime fans.
After the show we headed back to our host's house for the after-party. Not only did everyone have a good time, the house is so huge that there ended up being about 12 or so who spent the night! It was funny waking up the next day and one by one someone would be walking into the kitchen for that blessed coffee. People just kept appearing. As we got to talking to them all though, we found them to be a very interesting, diverse, colorful and extremely intelligent and well-educated group. We were among not only musicians, but teachers, world-travelers, artists and actors. What a great time. Thanks Patrick! And Clayton, Ryan and Meridith. You're the best.
