As part of my birthday gift to myself this year, I bought myself 4 hours at the Carolina Raptor Center exclusively (along w/around 20 or so other attendees) being able to photograph a variety of birds of prey in various settings. It was one of the best four hours I've ever spent outdoors. I still have hundreds of pictures to go through, but some are here in the gallery. Each had names, stories, temperaments, caretakers that were very attached to them, and I can easily see why. I think I should make this an annual trip, or at the very least just get back to visit them every once in a while. If you do end up go, be prepared to relax a bit there and watch them without any expectation or rush. You'll be rewarded for it in more ways than one.
We were further blessed this evening when we finally had dinner & wine with our good friends Maureen & Rick at their home. The pasta dinner was magnanimous, and the conversation (along with the wine) flowed freely and the hours flew by so quickly. Maureen has been a deer friend and mentor for many, many years and I am SO grateful to have had this and many enlightening and enriching experiences with her throughout my adult life. Visit her site and take one or more of her many classes or retreats. http://www.maureenryangriffin.com.
I need to treat myself like this more often. Definitely good food for the soul.
