Sat Sep 11 - LESLIE/Blues & BBQ/Tosco Party/BoDeans!
Took the guys back Uptown to get a BBQ Sandwich and walk around after the rain stopped. We ran into Jeff & Rhonda at the Atcom BBQ booth. I wonder if they won. The ribs were amazing! We had to hurry back home though and get our stuff together to work the Tosco Music Party. Don was asked to pick up Griffin House from the Visulite so he could play a couple of songs at the TMP and then get back for his headlining show later that night. Everyone was super nice and having a fun time rushing around before the Tosco show, and, from what I've been hearing, it was another huge success. Unfortunately between meeting and greeting and escorting our performer guests, I didn't get to see a single act before we had to leave. You see, The BoDeans were in town! I was already planning on going to see them, but now we had these VIP passes so I was even more excited. We arrived to find our section not only had an open beer & liquor bar, but seating!! Ahhhh...nice. Since it was still a bit early, we took advantage of this comfort and sat and watch the first band, which, after a while, we figured out it was hard to sit since they were so goo! The Honey Island Swamp Band..from New Orleans..and first time in Charlotte. Fantastic!! Then came the BoDeans and they sounded just perfect..better than I imagined they would. I was stunned at how great they were, honestly. I know they've been together a long time, but..Well I guess like The Moody Blues, if you've been together and performing and touring for decades, I guess it all makes sense. I didn't listen or think about any of their songs before the show so I had no expectations or hopes about what I wanted to hear. And I was pleasantly surprised they played my favorite "Fadeaway" anyway! The crowd loved them, they loved back. I was ecstatic.
After they ended with the expected "Closer to Free" and then we had to skedaddle back to the Visulite to return Griffin's merchandise we collected at the TMP. We caught the last couple of songs and ended up hanging out with the band until we had to let the staff close up. Good gracious what a weekend!
