Wow. I am SO glad we got the opportunity to see this show. Truly a class act, who, at 68, has managed to maintain a healthy lifestyle that has served her well both physically and musically/vocally. She treated us all like we were old friends, telling stories of her associations with Bob Dylan, Donovan, Steve Earle and so much more. She sang a lot of the new songs, some of the middle songs, and of course a few of the classic old songs "you all came to hear" as she put it :-). The band was as you would expect spot on professionals, having played around Nashville, and probably the world, with many big acts, for many years. The highlight of the evening, for me, was "Diamonds and Rust"...I'd totally forgotten about that song and it was worth the whole evening then and there. When she returned for the 2nd half of the encore (the first song being, of course, "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down"), in her arms a bouquet of flowers given to her by a loving fan, and started singing "Amazing Grace" a Capella, someone had almost divine inspiration and turned on the lighting to the stained glass windows around the room, which literally took Ms. Baez's breath away and she had to step away from the mic to recompose herself. She asked us to continue singing for her while she did so, and most happily complied. Very moving moment. And the perfect ending to yet another one of those magical evenings of music.
