Thank you Sun Domingo for inviting us to see you on the big stage..and Desmond too! The crowd, eagerly anticipating the arrival of Edwin McCain, warmed up to both of these fine performers. Dana and I made our first visit to the Fillmore and yes, a large beer, was $9. But parking WAS free, at least this night. An interesting crowd, but the whole staff was extremely pleasant and friendly, I'll say that. Every single one we spoke to or dealt with.
We had to cut our visit short to run over and see the plethora of local/regional acts gracing the CrownTown Showdown stage at the Neighborhood Theatre. We got there in time to see Stephen Warwick & Secondhand Stories (with Kristin back on trumpet!). They sounded SO good up there! The last time we saw them, the sound was a little rough. But that was then..Following Steven came the Folk Rock sounds of Uncle Mountain, from Asheville, NC. Another one of my regional favorites I don't seem to catch often enough. They've improved tremendously and you'll be hearing more from them. Uncle Mountain on MySpace. Speaking of area talent, Jimmy Brown's band, Matrimony, next. WOW. I was really disappointed I ever missed any of their previous shows, and now Jimmy & Ashlee are moving to Belfast for a couple of years. We'll get one more chance to see them in Charlotte, and it's SO worth the time to do so. So many singers and players in the band sing so perfectly and richly. An orchestra of voices to say the least. Check the video at Matrimony at the Neighborhood Theatre. Campbell was another new band for us. Fantastic..out of Concord? Again, SO much talent coming from this area! I heard the acts I missed were spot on fantastic too. We've been fans of Sunshone Still (Columbia, SC) for a long time now and I heard they captured the hearts of the new audience for them. We're big fans of Elonzo and Eyes of the Elders, and sad to have missed them, but happy & proud of them all for doing such a great job and gaining new fans. And we're so pleased for for e-s guthrie, who put this all together. What a gem of a night.
7:30-Elonzo, 8:15-Sunshone Still, 9:00-Stephen Warwick & Secondhand Stories, 9:45-Uncle Mountain, 10:30-Matrimony, 11:15-Campbell & 12:00-Eyes of the Eyes
